We have an assortment of typical SDDS files in this directory:

Of course, we could simply read the contents of these files into Mathematica, parsing them into the relevant pieces (c.f. the Import function or the tfsRead function from the Madtomma packages). However we can use a different approach, knowing that someone has already written Java classes that access the SDDS data.
